Gurene Wikimedia Community End-of-Year Annual Report 2023

January 17, 2024

The Gurene Wikimedia community participated in six projects this year. In March, we participated in Localization and Advocacy for Climate Awareness by creating selected articles about climate in the Gurene language. We documented the biographies of the 275 parliamentarians of the 8th Parliament of the 4th Republic of Ghana and improved their Wikidata items from April to June. In June, we digitised Africa in Gurene. From August to September, we documented the names of people and communities in Gurene on both Wikipedia and Wikidata.

From October to November, we documented the biographies of the 275 parliamentarians of the 8th Parliament of the 4th Republic of Ghana and improved their Wikidata items. The community's recent project is participating in the Wiki World Heritage Intangible Contest in December. Some of the achievements were that the Gurene language was added to the Khaya App and ChatGPT, and we started a new community engagement by allowing the language students to present their research works as a way of learning and improving our language. We add the names of people and communities in Gurene to Wikidata and create Wikipedia articles for them. Our milestone was transitioning from the incubator to the live Wikipedia. Two of our active community members won Best Male and Female Wikimedian (User: Baba Ayeera and User: Akolpoka, respectively) of the Year for the Gurene Wikimedia Community.
